Free printable bookmarks: 12 Zodiac designs

We love reading, and encouraging in on KiddyCharts, and you can probably tell this from the resources, and ideas that we have around literacy and books generally. For example, we have shared a reading log so you can keep an eye on what you and your kids are reading. We love a good bookmark too, with these animal bookmarks, and some friendship bookmarks already on the site, as well as a few other bookmark activities. Today, we are sharing with you some more free printable bookmarks. This time with Zodiac signs on them.

We are open to all manner of ideas on KiddyCharts, and the Zodiac signs are steeped in history, as well as being fun.

Where do the signs of the Zodiac come from?

My Father was a Greek historian, and he told me that the Zodiac signs are derived from Hellenistic and Babylonian astronomy. They first appeared in the Roman era, and are the word Zodiac is based on the Latin form zodiacus of ancient greek zōdiakòs kýklos. These mean cycle or circle of little animals, and this is exactly what the Zodiac is. It divides the year into 12 distinct periods, and the period your birthday falls within, means you have been born under that Zodiac sign.

The Zodiac is, in fact, a belt section of the sky, but it is now much more commonly associated with the signs of the Zodiac and horoscopes and astrology.

What do the free printable bookmarks look like

We have provided these to you in the form of a 5 page set. There is a cover sheet and a copyright notice sandwiching the three pages containing the bookmarks:

  • Libra, Aries, Cancer and Aquarius,
  • Gemini, Taurus, Leo and Virgo, and
  • Scorpio, Pisces, Capricorn and Sagittarius.

We have tried to keep to lighter and more eclectic colouring for this resource. We kept our branding as minimal in them as possible. We feel that this works better for the color scheme within the zodiac signs we have picked to work with on this free printable bookmarks.

When are the zodiac signs by month

For your information, the zodiac signs by month are:

  • Aquarius (Jan 20 – Feb 18)
  • Pisces (Feb 19 – Mar 20)
  • Aries (Mar 21 – Apr 19)
  • Taurus (Apr 20 – May 20)
  • Gemini (May 21 – Jun 20)
  • Cancer (Jun 21 – Jul 22)
  • Leo (Jul 23 – Aug 22)
  • Virgo (Aug 23 – Sept 22)
  • Libra (Sept 23 – Oct 22)
  • Scorpio (Oct 23 – Nov 21)
  • Sagittarius (Nov 22 – Dec 21), and
  • Capricorn (Dec 22 – Jan 19).

Traditionally, if you are born within the period bordering the transition into another sign, you are born on a cusp. For example, My mother was born on the 21st of July, as was both my maternal and paternal grandfather. All of them are born on the Cancer cusp.

We really hope that you agree that these are lovely depictions of the Zodiac, and would grace any book well. Some of the images for the signs are just too cute – we cannot get over the goat.

Not sure I have EVER seen a cute goat before – but Capricorn as it for us 😂
