Places to Take Your Kids in London this Christmas

The Christmas break provides us with the opportunity to spend some nice, quality time with our kids. For many this includes a plethora of different family days out and some parents have no doubt already begun considering a few entertaining places to take their children over the break. Fortunately for those living in the capital, London boasts an array of different quirky places to take your kids, and here are some of the best.

Room on the Boom at London’s Lyric Theatre

The theatre is a delightful family friendly destination due to the simple fact that it’s enjoyed immensely by all ages! With the characters being more engaging than in films and movies, children almost jump off their seats when enjoying a good play, and a good few of us adults do too.

London’s Lyric Theatre is showing Room on the Broom this winter, a play of witchery, friendship and fortune and is produced by the creators of The Gruffalo!

Tickets are £12.50 to £20.00, and the play is most suitable for children aged three to eight.

South Kensington

If you have any decent knowledge of London, you probably know all about why South Kensington is tailor made for a family day trip. This is the area that homes the Science Museum – which now boasts a new IMAX 3D cinema – the Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A).

The new Drop-in-Design facilities at the V&A will be hugely enjoyable for kids, as it allows them to create their own quirky designs inspired by the collections on show. The museum is free entry and holds an impressive 3,000 years’ worth of incredible artefacts from around the world. It’s no wonder why the V&A is London’s leading museum of art and design.

At the Natural History Museum, kids can enjoy the hands-on science centre and handle treasures as well as examining geological specimens in the Earth Lab. As well as Creepy Crawly and Dinosaur exhibits, the museum holds a gigantic blue whale for children and adults alike to stand in awe before. Entry to the National History Museum is free.

Entry to the Science Museum is also free!

Kempton Park

Both one of the most prestigious horse racing venues in the world and a complete specialised family daytrip destination, Kempton Park is the perfect place to spend a day with the kids this Christmas.

To be found at www.kempton.co.uk, Kempton Park is most known for its horseracing credentials and so this warrants first mention. Watching a horserace with the family at Kempton, is to simply experience the sport at its finest. This is the same ground that once saw Arkle terrorise opponents and Kauto Star win countless cups.

Kempton also do family days out however, which include mascot racing, star studded concerts and tasty cuisine.

The William Hill Winter Festival is the biggest event going down this Christmas. Taking place on the 26th and 27th December, the William Hill Winter Festival draws in over 30,000 each year to form an electrifying atmosphere and once-in-a-lifetime family experience. The two days will include watching the famous King George VI Chase, which will be held on Boxing Day, and top quality jump racing on both days. Tickets start from just £8.
