Win Amazon Fire HD 8 kids edition tablet with Poki games worth £129.99

This post is a result of partnering with Poki. Contains affiliate links.

Summer may be sticking around for just another month or so, but it won’t be long before autumn is upon us. Of course, there’s nothing stopping you going on a gaming marathon in the summer months, but most of us are out enjoying the sunshine and the long days. When autumn and winter roll around, you’ll need something to do in winter that doesn’t involve going outside into the harsh cold and streaming rain.

When that time does come, why not spend some time with browser games. Playing games through your browser gives you all the fun and excitement of console gaming or PC gaming but without the added costs. Don’t have a super-powerful machine? No problem – most browser games will run on laptops and desktops alike. We love board games, and other family fun, but a good mix of online and offline is great for the longer nights, and colder days.

We’re teaming up with Poki to bring you a pretty awesome giveaway courtesy of Gleam; and Amazon Fire HD Kids Edition Tablet! We’ll be offering a great prize via our Gleam giveaway to a randomly selected one of you, and you won’t need to do anything special in order to enter. Poki of the best browser-based gaming websites we’ve unearthed this month is Poki, an awesome gaming website.

Poki is a popular web gaming platform offering free online games to more than 30 million users worldwide. It’s the ultimate playground for kids of all ages – it’s right there in the slogan – so no matter what your age might be (yes, that includes adults), you’ll find something you love. We’ll tell you more about the Amazon Fire HD giveaway later, but first, let’s talk games.

It doesn’t matter what kind of games you’re into, or if you’ve never gamed before. Poki welcomes visitors of all stripes. There’s no condescension and no discrimination. All are welcome to come and take part in Poki’s online gaming party. All you need is your browser, your keyboard and mouse, and your desire to have some fun.

If you have spent some time gaming before, then you may well recognise a few of Poki’s more well-known hits. That’s because Poki works with mobile developers to bring some of the best-known and best-loved titles to its inclusive gaming space. Poki is best known for its exclusive web games Subway Surfers, Crossy Road, and these other popular games. So, what specific game should you play on Poki? Let’s spin the random wheel (honest) and pick one at random

Just Kidding. We’re bringing Uno Online to your attention from Poki’s massive and impressive roster, largely because we had so much fun playing it here that we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you about it. Uno Online on Poki is, as you may well have guessed, an online version of the ever-popular physical card game. You’ve probably played Uno before, but you’ve never played a version this good.

Uno is pretty hard to mess up, but it’s amazing how the developers of this version have managed to iterate on the classic game. The animations here are beautiful and fluid, each color of card popping out of the screen with vibrancy and detail. The visuals are pretty simplistic, but Uno can get quite hectic, so a less cluttered visual style definitely suits the game.

You won’t be able to play this version of Uno with player opponents, but the three AIs presented for you are more than up to the challenge. If you prefer, you can go head-to-head with a single opponent. This version of Uno Online supports up to 4 players (that’s you and three computer players), so whatever your preferred configuration you’ll find something to enjoy.

Here’s how it works for the uninitiated. You might also know Uno’s basic formula by the names Switch, Crazy Eights, or Blackjack (in the UK). The goal is to be the first one to rid yourself of your entire hand of cards. To do this, you’ll need to keep playing your cards when you can and trying to avoid having more cards added to your hand. It’s a lot harder than it sounds!

You can match your card to the number, color, or symbol of the card currently in play. For example, if there’s a red 8 card on the pile in front of you, then you can either play an 8, a red card, or a special card. These extra cards change play up in exciting ways. You might suddenly find yourself going last instead of first, or you might find yourself suddenly having to play a completely different card.

Uno is, of course, a total blast, which we all know because we’re all regular repeat visitors to it in physical form. We didn’t realise how much fun we’d had with the Poki version until we emerged from our computer cave to find an hour or two had gone past. Don’t blame us if that happens to you! We jest, of course, but Uno Online turned out to be an extremely absorbing and enjoyable way to pass the time.
