Celebrate Father’s Day with a rotating tie card craft

Crafting is a fun activity that builds confidence in children and fosters meaningful connections as well. It allows kids to express their creativity, feel accomplished, and ultimately strengthen their bond with loved ones. This rotating tie Father’s Day card is a perfect project that combines all these positive elements. Whether you’re tackling this craft at home, in the classroom, or as part of a parenting activity, it’s sure to encourage joy and appreciation for dads. Below, I’ll guide you through creating this keepsake step by step.

Materials

Before you get started, gather these materials to make your crafting time seamless and fun!

  • Printable templates for the rotating tie card (three sheets, print two copies of Sheet 3)
  • Colored pens, crayons, or markers
  • Safety scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Paper fastener
  • Sharpened pencil or another tool to make small holes
  • Optional: Photos of Dad to personalize the card

Instructions to create the rotating tie card craft

Follow these steps to create a one-of-a-kind surprise for your Dad. This can be done at home, in the classroom or perhaps with your mum or carer. Ideas for all these locations are given below these instructions for you.

  1. Print the templates:
    • Print the three template sheets. Make sure to print an extra copy of the third sheet, as it contains the necktie shapes.
  2. Get creative!
    • Color in the outlines of the templates. On the necktie shapes, write reasons why “Dad” is loved. For instance, you can write, “You make the best pancakes!” or “You always know how to make me laugh!” There isn’t a huge amount of room, we know, so perhaps you can give just a couple of words, whatever you feel comfortable with. Maybe just “I love you”
    • Instead of writing messages, you can draw fun patterns or designs on the ties.
    • For added flair, glue Dad’s photo onto the center of one of the circles!
  3. Cut it all out:
    • Carefully cut out the circles, ties, and shirts.
    • Create small semi-circles along the dashed lines on the main circle for easier assembly.
    • Cut out the rectangular space that appears on the shirt front.
  4. Create the rotating tie:
    • Make a hole in the center of each circle using a sharp pencil or similar tool.
    • Glue the necktie circles back-to-back, ensuring the necktie shapes align perfectly.
    • Once dry, layer all the pieces together with the decorated side of the shirt facing out. Hold the pieces in place by fastening a paper fastener through the middle.
  5. Optional finishing touches:
    • Add stickers, glitter, or any small embellishments to personalize it further.

Now, give it a spin and watch Dad’s rotating ties come to life! This card will bring a huge smile to his face.
