The Sound Collector is deaf, and wears ear defenders as well as working with his friend Mole to do his collecting. Do check out the other activities on the site, including how to make maracas and our kazoo craft too.

This is a lovely way of “seeing sound” for kids, and it really simple to do as well:

  • Tear off some cling film that the right size for covering the top of the bowl you have,
  • Fix this to the top of the bowl, making sure it is really tight,
  • Poor 1tsp of the un-cooked rice you have gathered over the top of the cling film,
  • Hold the metal pan in the air just above the bowl,
  • Take the metal spoon you have, and bang on the pan like a drum and watch what happens to the rice!
