The Sands Resort Scarborough: A Review

Press Trip; we were given a complementary stay here to produce a feature on Scarborough. All opinions are our own

Scarborough isn’t a place we think of immediately when thinking about a trip to the Yorkshire coast. Whitby, Yes. Scampi, in particular. But not Scarborough, but after a weekend staying in The Sands Scarborough apartments at North Bay, then you may just change your view of the Yorkshire Coast, and Scarborough itself.

We had never seen the Yorkshire Coast really before we visited in the Sands Resort Scarborough, and I can say we'revery likely to want to come back here!

We had never had the pleasure of visiting the Yorkshire Coast really before we set foot in Scarborough, and I can safely say, we are more than likely to want to come back here. It is simply gorgeous – even with the weather a little off colour 🤣

Where is the Sands Resort Scarborough?

Obviously The Sands Resort is located within Scarborough; however it is a little outside the town centre right on the sea front in the picturesque North Bay area of the town.

It is situated just behind the North Bay Railway and Sky Trail, and within a stones throw of Peasholm park as well. In other words, it is positioned in an excellent location for some of the local attractions within the town. Alpamere Water Park is only a ten minute walk up the hill from the apartments.

The North Bay Railway will also take you, on a short 10 minute trip to the Scalby Mill area of Scarborough where the Sealife Centre is located.

Travelling by car

Travelling to the Apartments by car, from the South, was relatively straight forward; straight up the A1 and then along the A64 and A641. It took just shy of 4 hours; so a single trip with a 20 minute break.

What are the accommodation and facilities like within The Sands Scarborough?

The Sands has a number of one to three bedroom apartments in the complex; which also includes private owners.

It is five-star accommodation, and the facilities match the stars as it includes a gym, free WiFi, secure parking, and even a private chef (if you take the time to book of course).

There are also baby-sitting facilities on site for you, should you wish to take advantage of this.

Most importantly – the complex includes an ice cream parlour – and is, in fact, located opposite rather a gorgeous restaurant with even more choices of ice cream for your delight; Peaches n’ Cream!

Apartments also have the options of a sea view, and a hot tub; so there is certainly something for everyone within the complex.

Great service with those little touches

Upon arrival; we were presented with a lovely loaf of bread, milk, and a few pots of jam. Just a few little additions to make you feel at home.

Staff at the front desk were extremely helpful, providing us with a map to help explore the town, and giving details about the opening hours of the local shops, and restaurants within the property.

The apartments themselves are wonderfully bright, and impeccably clean. They have been tastefully decorated, and are surprisingly spacious as well.

We have been lucky enough to stay at a number of locations across the globe. Apartments can be “squashed” in to a complex as land prices are at premium. Our apartment had good sized rooms, giving a great feeling of freedom throughout the two bedrooms and throughout.

The kitchen was located just off the dining and living room, and a stunning view out of the french windows and on to the balcony.

The beach.
The view from our balcony – not bad eh?

It was a real pleasure to sit and watch the waves, and the walkers on the beach from the comfort of our own space.

The kitchen was well stocked, and with enough room for a family of four to cook, and prepare comfortably. The only criticism was the extractor fan, which was located just above the hob over the peninsula dividing the kitchen from the dining area. It was very easy (or it was for me) to bang your head on it; so due care and attention needed throughout your stay!

This was a small point though, compared to the comforts that the apartment provided.

Even the dining area decor was stunning, and in keeping with its great location.

Overall – 9/10

These apartments are in an excellent location, close to a number of the key attractions within Scarborough, and a 15 minute walk (up a hill) from Scarborough Castle and town centre too. There is also a 5 minute bus trip too.

The costs of the stay are in line with the quality of the accommodation, so if you are looking for a slightly more expensive, excellent location for your stay; you have found it.

The beds, and hospitality, as well as the facilities, will be hard to beat within the town; particularly with the situation of the hotel within walking distance of a number of the excellent family attractions within North Bay, including the Alpamere Water park.

We loved our time at the Sands Resort Scarborough, so much so that the boy said:

“Can we come back here in the summer to play mini golf?”

That probably just about says it all for a family holiday accommodation choice.

We hope you like this, do check out the other travel articles that we have on here, as well as everything we have on Scarborough too. There is plenty more to see here – and you’ll be surprised at what you can find within walking distance, or a short drive away from the apartments.
