Simple Pinata cake for birthday parties

You don't get much more gorgeous that this Pinata cake for a birthday party that will go wonderfully well with the kids, if this is its centrepiece. We show you all how to make it!

If your child likes a good ‘ole pinata, they are going to LOVE this Pinata Cake!!  The suggestion is to fill with smarties but I’m sure you can fill with any of their favourite sweets :-)   Give it a go and let us know how you get on.

Simple Pinata cake for birthday parties

You don't get much more gorgeous that this Pinata cake for a birthday party that will go wonderfully well with the kids, if this is its centrepiece. We show you all how to make it!

Ingredients

Vanilla Cake

  • 375 g butter
  • 375 g caster sugar
  • 2 tsps vanilla extract/vanilla bean paste or the seeds from 1 vanilla pod
  • 6 large eggs
  • 375 g self raising flour

Icing

  • 200 g butter
  • 400 g icing sugar, sifted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pastel Chocolate Candy Beans, Smarties to fill.

To decorate:

  • Cake confetti sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Cream together the butter and caster sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the vanilla extract. A person is using an electric mixer to prepare food on a table covered with kitchen utensils and tableware.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time beating well after each addition.
  4. Sift in the flour and fold in until well blended.
  5. Divide the mixture between the 3 tins and bake in the oven for 25-30minutes until golden on top and springy to the touch.
  6. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
  7. Prepare the icing beating together the Stork, icing sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  8. Level the tops of the 3 cakes using a sharp serrated knife.
  9. Cut out the centres of 2 of the cakes with a sharp knife or cookie cutter to create 2 rings.
  10. Set the first ring onto a serving plate or cake board and sandwich together with the next ring using a layer of icing.
  11. Fill the centre of the ring with chocolate candy beans. A person is decorating a sugar cake with icing, cream, food coloring, and other baked goods in a sweet and creative way indoors.
  12. Coat the top of the ring with icing and place the full round cake into position. Coat the top and sides of the cake with the remaining icing.
  13. Use the tip of a palette knife to create a ridged style in the sides and top of the icing.
  14. Decorate with sprinkles and serve. A person is decorating a birthday cake with buttercream, royal icing, sugar paste, and food coloring, surrounded by a variety of baking supplies on a table.

Delicious sponge cake. No instructions on the oven temperature, so guessed with 350F at 20 mins. Icing was a little fiddly (didn't stick to the cake and was very crumbly) and needed two batches to cover the whole cake. End result looks great, hope my daughter is pleased.
