Saffron Walden 10K: Fabulous Women run for Max and Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research

Saffron Walden 10K: Max during a lumbar puncture

Saffron Walden 10K: Max during a lumbar puncture

*local alert* *local alert*

But stop, don’t go…it may be a local appeal, but its an international issue….

Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research was founded over 50 years ago in 1960. When a child was given a leukaemia diagnosis then, their chances of survival were minimal. Now, an amazing 9 out of 10 children survive the most common form of leukaemia thanks to the investment into research that this organisation has helped to fund.

The Saffron Walden Fabulous Business Women, of which I am lucky enough to be a member, are running the local 10K to help research by raising money through Just Giving to help this cause, and a little local lad, Max, who was diagnosed with Leukaemia and is receiving on going treatment. Max started school this year, and his family have been tirelessly supporting him and the charity in their fight against the disease.

So…*on bended knees* please give something if you can spare it. Just £50 pays for a single day of a research nurse to support patients in the new clinical trials that support the ground-breaking research being done. This wonderful group of business women have already raised over £2,300 of there £3,000 target..so they aren’t too far off. Help them get there if you can.

And if you want to see some ladies in Saffron Walden out running instead of managing their wonderful business, including Beauty, Bump and Babies, Saffron Crafts, and The Sweet Shop then pop along to Newport Free Grammar for the 10.30am start on Sunday 30th September. Hopefully there will be some of these fabulous women wearing bunting and eating sweets while running in a very stylish maternity tracksuit…

There is a shorter family fun run at 11.45am which is suitable for people, like me, who run like girls….

And even if you can’t make it, you can put in an extra effort. Take a leaf from the Design Essentials book. Wendy Howell, the owner of the company, even managed to go one step further as she will be away for the run itself. She did the run in Greece while she was sunning herself there – now that’s dedication to the cause!

Please let me know below if there are any other ladies doing the run which I have not included here. I wasn’t sure who was running and who wasn’t. All I know is that I couldn’t run for 10 minutes, never mind 10K, so well done all of you!

Helen is a mum to two, social media consultant, and website editor; and this site is (we think) the only Social Enterprise parenting magazine! Since giving up being a business analyst when juggling travel, work and kids proved too complicated, she founded KiddyCharts so she could be with her kids, and use those grey cells at the same time. KiddyCharts has reach of over 1.1million across social and the site. The blog works with big family brands (including travel) to help promote their services, as well as offering free resources to parents of kids under 10. It gives 51%+ profits to Reverence for Life, who fund a number of important initiatives in Africa, including bringing running water and basic equipment to a school in Tanzania. Helen has worked as a digital marketing consultant (IDM qualified) with various organisations, including Channel Mum, Truprint, Talk to Mums, and Micro Scooters. She loves to be creative in the brand campaigns she works on. Get in touch TODAY!
