International Women’s Day – A digital postcard from Tanzania showing the impact of #lastingchange

Alexander Residence, Mummy Barrow and Mammasaurus are doing amazing things for some amazing people as part of the wonderful sensation that is Teamhonk.

They are currently in Tanzania looking at how Sport Relief money is spent to help some amazing women achieve against all odds; helping to create #lastingchange.

Take the wonderful Eliafura, sorking hard in this picture…

lastingchange: International Women's Day

This wonderful lady should be an inspiration to us all on International Woman’s Day; she inspired the Teamhonk ladies when they met her yesterday…

“Eliafura makes the most beautiful batiks and tie dyed material. With the support of the Gatsby Trust, Eliafura has registered her business and learned important health and safety rules around the chemicals she uses. Eliafura now also trains other women in the village who bring material to her and she shows them how to create these beautiful patterns. They sell easily to not only local schools where teachers like to buy them but also overseas. We bought her entire stock because we loved them all so much and are now working out how to sell them on so we can complete the circle of donation, funding, training, selling, donating.”

Annie, Tanya and Penny are looking to sell the stock that she has made so that her work can continue the cycle and keep on creating those moments of #lastingchange. Sport Relief provides this type of support to those that need it, helping them to gain the skills required to create change. Not change short-lived, but change forever, and that will be passed on to others, and perhaps to the next generation too. The skills that Eliafura has learn through the Gatsby Trust are being passed to members of her village, so that she doesn’t need the support she once did. Everyone is striving for that #lastingchange.

Helen is a mum to two, social media consultant, and website editor; and this site is (we think) the only Social Enterprise parenting magazine! Since giving up being a business analyst when juggling travel, work and kids proved too complicated, she founded KiddyCharts so she could be with her kids, and use those grey cells at the same time. KiddyCharts has reach of over 1.1million across social and the site. The blog works with big family brands (including travel) to help promote their services, as well as offering free resources to parents of kids under 10. It gives 51%+ profits to Reverence for Life, who fund a number of important initiatives in Africa, including bringing running water and basic equipment to a school in Tanzania. Helen has worked as a digital marketing consultant (IDM qualified) with various organisations, including Channel Mum, Truprint, Talk to Mums, and Micro Scooters. She loves to be creative in the brand campaigns she works on. Get in touch TODAY!
