Six tips to get Pinspiration for your kids bedroom

I am not a decorating type of gal – not really. I have the odd flash of inspiration at 3am, and then by the time I wake up, its gone, and in its place is the idea that I really must do something with that old chair my gran left me…but now I just don’t have the time. So imagine my horror that both the kids bedrooms now have to be COMPLETELY revamped.

Apparently.

It is no longer cool at ten years old to be staring up at Hello Kitty prancing around on her little mushroom clouds.

It is also not good to have an animal mural on your wall when you are eight, into football, and the most important thing in your life is Harry Kane, and making sure that you keep a clean sheet in that football match that your parents have to stand in the rain in all winter…

I shook at the idea that I might have to get some ideas together for creating not one, but two different kids bedrooms, for two very, very different kids as well…and these would have to last for the next 6-8 years without teenage friends laughing in my kids faces. Enter Pinterest, and our old friend Mr Google.

However, believe it or not, it is NOT just for looking for cool pictures of cats, and imagining that you really did live in a house like that; nope, its actually incredibly useful. This week, I have been mostly searching for UK products that fit into the two themes that my kids have gone for; blue gymnastics for Chatterbox (naturally) and the Spurs Football team for Stuntboy. None of us wanted anything too over the top, so we were also focused on getting wallpaper and paint that fitted in with the themes, but didn’t shout them at everyone. We weren’t going to be getting football wallpaper, or sillouettes of gymnasts all over the walls. Graham and Brown offered some excellent choices for my daughter; a lovely light blue wallpaper, a teal orchid print, and some galloping horses which would offset the gymnastic elements, without overpowering the theme completely. The Water Street dark blue paint was perfect for the blue that Spurs regularly turn up in on a Saturday; it passed muster with him, so that’s good enough for me!

Once the walls were sorted, it was just a matter of looking at some of the other UK based companies to get some more ideas for everything from curtains, to mirrors, to rugs and wall art; even murals. For the football themed bedroom, with a bit of a Spurs blue and white thang going on, Pinterest proved to be a perfect location to pin all our ideas. In order to avoid spamming, you can make your board secret, and pin everything you find in your one mad sitting. Once you are ready, make the board public. Alternatively, you can just pin over a longer period of time; but I always get a bit too excited for that….

Over the next few weeks, I shall be adding regularly to the boards and hopefully reporting back on progress on both of the rooms. Pinterest is going to remain my friend from some time to come….

In summary, the best way to collate those kids bedroom ideas on Pinterest is to:

1. Identify some great UK companies through Google that offer relevant products,
2. Spend the next three days *cough* looking at their websites longingly,
3. Create a Pinterest profile – if by some miracle you don’t already have one; though it is probably just me that’s totally obsessed come to think of it
4. Create Secret themed boards on Pinterest for each bedroom, so you don’t spam your followers, but if you have more time, just pin a few ideas at a time to a public Pinterest board,
5. When you have largely finished adding to your boards, or are happy you won’t spam your Pinterest profile, edit your Pinterest board so it is no longer secret
6. Have fun playing!

It really is THAT simple to get your ideas flowing thanks to Pinterest. Your kids bedroom will never be the same again!
